Poria cocos, commonly know as China root, is a fungus that resembles a small coconut in appearance. It has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), since ancient times it was ground into a powder and taken daily to support wellbeing.


Functions and general science:

In TCM, Poria cocos is referred to as a herb that "drains dampness". The main action of this type of herb in TCM is to promote water metabolism, which from a biomedical perspective is reflective of a diuretic effect.  It is also taken to help regulate immune responses, therefore supporting healthy immune function.
