Inositol is a vitamin-like compound that is often said to belong to the B-complex family. It is found is many foods, though highest levels are found in whole grains and citrus fruits.

Inositol is an essential component of cell membrane phospholipids. It is abundant in the central nervous system and also plays a role in a messenger system which is linked to certain neurotransmitter receptors.  It is needed for successful signalling of neurotransmitters and helping to regulate hormonal balance within the brain.
