General description:

Manganese is an essential trace mineral. Dietary sources of manganese include wheat germ, wheat bran, wholemeal bread, hazelnuts and pecan, lentils and other beans, cocoa and dark chocolate.

 

Functions and general science:

Manganese is absorbed throughout the entire length of the small intestine. The human body contains about 10mg of manganese, which is stored mainly in the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and bones. Manganese is involved in maintaining healthy cartilage and bone. It also assists with collagen production and therefore helps with minor wound healing.
